The Pescantina District

POMPEA VINEYARD

The Pescantina District extends in the province of Verona. From a morphological point of view, the area is found on a thin layer of soil formed by earthy material and mostly siliceous-clayey debris. Grape varieties such as Pinot Grigio DOC delle Venezie, Merlot and Cabernet are grown in the vineyards. The Monteci vineyards are located along the banks of the Adige River and enjoy a mild climate cooled by the breezes of nearby Monte Baldo. Thanks to the high temperature range favoured by the proximity of the river, the resulting wine is characterised by a particularly aromatic note.

The Valpolicella Classica District – high hills

COSTA DELLE CORONE VINEYARD

The Valpolicella Classica District extends over an area in the Verona County, which includes the municipalities of Sant’Ambrogio, San Pietro in Cariano, Fumane, Marano and Negrar. The hilly area is characterised by a mostly calcareous terroir. The vines are widespread in the low sloping sections and on the medium terraced slopes. The Monteci vineyards are located at a high altitude (450-500 m a.s.l.) on the latter. The cultivation of the grape is concentrated on the indigenous vines of this land, such as Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta for example. The characteristics of the soil and the high altitude mean that the wine is distinguished by its astringency and acidity as well as by a high polyphenolic content, which allows for producing of wines suitable for medium-long aging.

The Valpolicella Classica District – low hills

AVANZI VINEYARD

The valley floor area of Valpolicella Classica, of alluvial origin and rich in calcareous deposits from pre-Alpine valleys, is characterised by a very variable texture: at times silty-clay and at times light-skeletal. The area is fertile, warmer and more favourable for high productions. Grassing over is practised in the vineyard with the adoption of the guyot. Most of the Valpolicella vineyards are planted with the original vine varieties of these lands such as Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. The Monteci vines are planted in deep soils (> 1 m), the structure and porosity of which are very good. They are also rather fertile terroirs that allow for a high production. The grapes that come from this area therefore have an excellent sugar content and good acidity values.

The Lugana District

MONTONALE VINEYARD

The Lugana District extends south of Lake Garda and includes a large area that starts from the municipalities of Desenzano and Lonato to the west and reaches as far as Peschiera and Pozzolengo in the east. This area is divided into two parts, one flat and one hilly: the Monteci vineyards are located on the flat part, characterised by soils of morainic origin, clayey and rich in minerals. The morainic origin of this territory dates to the Paleocene period, when Lake Garda suffered four glaciations that shaped the landscape, first holding back and then releasing large amounts of detritus. It is precisely the chemical-physical characteristics of the soil that add body and warmth, acidity and sapidity to the structural skeleton of the wine, as well as vigorous and clean bouquet, a mixture of almond and citrus, in the aromatic structure.
