Arcé
| The historical home of the Moteci Winery is at Arcè, a lovely little village of Roman origin. And here, situated inside an ancient walled-in garden, stands the tiny San Michele Arcangelo Church dating back to 1100 A.D.. There is a secondary entrance on the south side of the church with a curious phrase etched onto its archivolt held by some to be a magical spell. It is a palindrome, i.e. it can be read from right to left, left to right, from top to bottom and from bottom to top, the meaning appears to be: ”the peasant, with his work, turns the wheels”. It is precisely here, in this centuries old farming district of Pescantina, that the Montecis began to cultivate their love for the land and its produce. |
