The Valpolicella is a region of ancient origins the name of which some academics believe probably comes from latino Vallis-polis-cellae that, translated literally, means “valley of the many cellars".

This area so desired and renowned for the production of top class red wines is formed by the meeting of four small valleys dug out by fast moving streams coming from the ancient glaciers of the Lessini mountains. Located to the north of the city of Verona, East of Lake Garda and south-east of the Lessinia, the Valpolicella enjoys precious natural microclimates particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines. The climate is influenced by the cool currents of air that blow down from the Lessini Mountains and are mitigated by the tepid breezes that come up from Lake Garda.

It is here that the Montecis began their business as wine producers The family's fortunes today are founded on eighty hectares under vine. The lands extend partially into the hilly areas of the Historical Valpolicella from Cavalo di Fumane to San Pietro in Cariano and from Monte di Sant’Ambrogio to Pescantina. They are the result of constant sacrifices and investments, of considerable resources spent to develop ever newer cultivation and vineyard growing techniques so as to ensure the production of outstanding grapes with a low yield.
